Combined Clock & Amusement Device |
|
This is a device that was built in the mid-60's. The folliwng text is from the Patent Abstract: |
In an amusement device an electroluminescent panel displays two dice, the particular numbers shown being determined partly by the duration for which a player's key is depressed and partly by the discharging of a capacitor and thus being substantially random, and is so arranged that when a game is not in progress the numbers shown by the dice are the hour of day, a separate portion of the display indicating the number of minutes. Games are started by the insertion of a coin. Both the coin-freed switch and the player's key are linked to a control unit behind the display panel by radio. |
I believe this is a prototype, as there is no coin interface, and the control box is a simple switch mounted in a box. The display works, but you can see what the camera could capture below. It is a luminescent green color. The dice are showing a roll of 8. The 'spin' function works, when you press the button on the control box, but the time display never does anything. The 'dice' remain locked into displaying the last 'roll'. |

A very cool piece of gambling ephemera. Make me an offer and we can figure out how to ship it to you, I recommend a ground shipper. The display is silk-screened glass, and is no thicker than a framed picture. The control box is made of a painted fiber board. All wires and cables are included, as is the switch box. The whole thing weighs like 30 or 40 pounds, built like they built stuff back then. Perhaps UPS or FedEx would be best. |
